CULTURAL PROGRAMME

promoted by: Associazione The Others

The cultural program of The Others has been developed to highlight the many facets of contemporary artistic expression. Thanks to the contribution of the Curatorial Board and highly specialized faculty members, the proposed initiatives interpret the ongoing transformations in artistic language, reflecting its increasingly multidisciplinary nature and openness to cross-contamination. The Others continues to affirm itself as an incubator for emerging talent through collaborations with numerous Art Academies.

 PERFORMANCE PROGRAMME

The performance program, curated by Lýdia Pribišová, explores the relationship between the body, urban space, and artificial intelligence, and includes performances by students of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, curated by Maja Štefančíková and developed under her guidance as an artist and lecturer in the Academy’s Performance Laboratory. Students from NABA – Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti and galleries participating in the fair have also been involved.

a cura di Lýdia Pribišová

ACADEMY OF FINE ARTS AND DESIGN IN BRATISLAVA

The Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava is a strong and prestigious Slovak university focused on art, devoting much of its efforts to artistic and scientific research, as well as emerging international collaboration within the European education, art, and research areas.
The project To the Rhythm of the Algorithm presents new performative works and explores how algorithms, artificial intelligence, and digital surveillance shape our bodies and our perception of reality.

The students from the Intermedia Department of the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Slovakia — Tomáš Brichta, Michaela Prablesková, and Julia Pabst — collaborate under the artistic guidance of Maja Štefančíková, who is also the curator of the project, and in cooperation with curator Lýdia Pribišová.

Tomáš Brichta: Questions and Answers

The performance investigates the relationship between human beings and algorithms through the risky and repetitive act of throwing a stone above one’s own face. It creates a tension between the desire to maintain control and the constant threat that the stone might fall onto the performer’s face.

Julia Pabst: Just Dance

In this performance, Julia Pabst draws from visual and gestural archives of pop culture and the history of dance, transforming them into an algorithmically generated choreography. What initially appears as a carefree game progressively turns into a demanding algorithmic dictation — the movements become increasingly complex, senseless, and difficult to reproduce. The work explores the limits of the human body within a system that knows neither fatigue nor error.

Michaela Prablesková: Give Me Your Phone And I Will Tell You Who You Are

A performance set in a fortune-telling booth — but instead of cards or a crystal ball, the artist asks the audience to hand over their unlocked phones. From the digital data emerges a prophecy of the future tinged with dark humor, confronting visitors with an absurd choice that could change their destiny.

NABA | NUOVA ACCADEMIA DI BELLE ARTI

The project The Absent Community presents four performances created by students from the BA in Painting and Visual Arts and the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies programs at NABA, Nuova Accademia di Belle Arti, Milan campus. The four selected works reflect on the growing sense of isolation and alienation in contemporary society, as well as on the desire—and the urgent need—to re-establish more communal and meaningful relationships with people and with the world around us. Conceived and curated by Andris Brinkmanis, Course Leader of the MA in Visual Arts and Curatorial Studies at NABA, these performances engage in a dialogue with the other performative works presented.

Penelope Andronico: SWEAT

A performative act in two parts that explores the body as a generator of energy and presence in space.
In the first act, through intense physical gestures — running, jumping, dancing, moving through the space and among the audience — the artist transforms the exhibition context into a field of movement and organic vitality, generating body heat up to the point of sweat, the visible sign of this energetic tension.
In the second act, the artist transfers the accumulated heat to the ground: an ephemeral trace of sweat destined to vanish. With its dissolution, the work is completed in the memory of the gesture and the transformation of the body into absence.

Filippo Paci: The Conformist

The performance originates from a reinterpretation of Giorgio Gaber’s exploration of identity and the fragility of critical thought. With tragicomic tones blending pop culture and fictional screenplay, the “scenic pamphlet” uses the body—deprived of speech but full of intention—as a physical translation of Gaber’s message: the contemporary individual, imprisoned by populism, rediscovers uniqueness through gesture, denouncing collective automatisms and seeking truth through presence, effort, and the body’s own freedom.
The performance thus becomes an act of awareness, in which the silent language of movement restores to political reflection its most authentic and human dimension — independent and personal.

C. Sidonie Pellegrino: Voce ca conta

The performance employs a minimal gesture: word of mouth. The artist approaches one person at a time and whispers into their ear a verse from one of her poems in Neapolitan, entrusting them with precious yet intentionally obscure words — fragments of a single text. This sibylline act embodies the poem’s meaning: the enchantment and transitory nature of oral transmission rooted in Campanian folk culture, and the transformative power of that cultural word-of-mouth which shapes the collective imagination.

Damini Yadav: The Space Between Your Feet and the Ground

A ritual performance that explores the disconnection between humans and the earth, using this gap as a space for potential reconnection with the planet. Through natural materials such as spices, flowers, and stones, it invokes a humble and profound dialogue with the invisible forces of the earth. Spices, once symbols of colonial exploitation, become tools of healing and reconnection. The performance is entirely guided by intuition and invites the audience to participate within the sacred space thus created.

EXHIBITORS PERFORMANCE

Tao Han: Wrestling With Angels

presented by: ARTRA PROJECTS, Milano

The performance Wrestling With Angels enacts the artist’s entire personal experience of painting, presenting to the audience a non-visual experience within a five-minute period of force and reaction, resistance and contradiction. Gold serves as a metaphor for Tao Han’s so-called traditional and dogmatic system, and the seemingly destructive act is also a satire on materialism. The focus is on the process of transforming the painting’s form, turning the work into a reflection on the intimate relationship between artist and creation, which by the end of the process become one and the same.

Aldo Runfola: Ssuperrationall, Ssupernnaturall

presented by: GAZE – OFF & FRANCO MARINOTTI, Lugano (CH) – Barcellona (ES)

This performative action questions the artist’s current state of health: is he healthy, ill, suffering, or recovering — and from what ailment? Implicitly, Aldo Runfola also seeks to test the intellectual tradition that views the artist or philosopher as a critic and clinician of society, capable of diagnosing its possible pathologies and measuring its degree of malaise — all in view of, if not full recovery, at least a better state of health.

Sara Lovari: A World of words

presented by: SILVIAROSSI | ARTGALLERY, Bibbiena (AR)

Sara Lovari presents a performance that gives meaning to a minimal gesture, free from the filter of technology. The artist invites the audience to draw a letter of the alphabet from a bag, asking in return for a word that begins with that letter. It is a simple, almost childlike act that becomes an act of resistance: a way to place at the center once again our ability to name, imagine, and construct meaning without delegating it to an algorithm. An intimate encounter, in which each collected word becomes a trace, a memory, a relationship.

CURATED BY CAROLINA CIUTI

Digital-Craft Journey AI

The videos selected from the Digital-Craft Journey AI (Video) call, aimed at students from five Italian Fine Arts Academies (Turin, Milan, Bologna, Florence, and Catania), explore new forms of artistic expression through digital media. The winning works investigate the limits and possibilities of artificial intelligence in art or within the domestic environment. Completing the focus on video art are the contributions from the participating galleries, selected and curated by Carolina Ciuti.

Aleandro Sinatra, Le voyage dans la Lune?, 2025. 4’33’

Accademia Albertina di Belle Arti di Torino

The work offers a reinterpretation of Le voyage dans la Lune (1902) by Georges Méliès through the use of artificial intelligence. Within the video, foreign bodies—cyborgs, hybrid beings, and humans—emerge, disrupting the reality of the image and destabilizing its time, space, and apparent coherence. In this altered environment, the creatures question the myth of exploration, traversing history and its normalizing visions, offering a reflection on the boundary between classical imagination and digital transformation.

Demis Rosa, Sometimes it’s hard to connect, 2025. 8’

Accademia di Belle Arti di Firenze

The work takes its cue from Theme Song (1973) by Vito Acconci, created during a period in which the artist was experimenting with performance, sound recordings, and video as tools for establishing a direct and intimate relationship with the viewer. In the original piece, Acconci uses monologue—charged with sexual tension and irony—to express loneliness and a desire for physical closeness, creating a dialogue that seems to erase any distance between artist and audience.
In this new interpretation, Acconci’s voice interacts with Maya, an advanced artificial intelligence architecture capable of generating more empathetic and realistic vocal interactions. The video explores the human tendency to humanize technology and assimilate it into its own evolutionary and transformative processes, creating a dialogue between two “entities” reflecting on relationships, communication, and the gap between the physical and virtual body. The work continues Acconci’s reflection on the influence of images and media, showing how technology can amplify the need for closeness and presence, while prompting questions about the boundary between real and digital experience.

Eugenio Liotta, Rosario Orazio Caccamo, cAIfè, 2025. 1’29’’

Accademia di Belle Arti di Catania

This “video guide” stages the human being as a programmable device—a subject that must operate according to optimized protocols. Corporate language transforms emotional repression into a virtue, extending beyond the professional realm into private life. The work envisions a near future in which the individual self-disciplines to the point of complete alienation, sacrificing themselves in every aspect of daily life. In exchange for this renunciation, perhaps only one small reward remains: a good coffee.

Sara Caushaj, GLOBAL THINK FORUM, 2025. 1’19’’

Accademia di Belle Arti di Brera

The video depicts two men at a conference—stereotypical figures immersed in an equally codified environment. As they attempt to begin their speech, they continuously interrupt each other, generating nervous laughter, silences, and moments of embarrassment that reveal the fragility and fallibility of the human condition. The work reflects on the loss of one of our last consolations: language. Amid incomplete attempts and constant interruptions, the only sentence that reaches completion is the final question:
“Do you think AI can feel shame sometimes?”
—evoking a reflection on the boundary between human consciousness and artificial intelligence.

Exhibitors’ proposal

The Body at the Center: Documents of Performance

Here, the body is both protagonist and field of tension—a place where identity, social expectations, and desires for self-determination intertwine. Though very different in visual language and approach, the participating artists stage a physicality traversed by deeply rooted cultural narratives: in Maternidades Indelebles by Ivette Salazar, motherhood emerges as an invisible mark, a lingering echo of social roles and ancestral memories; in YOUniverse by Lulù Withheld, technology becomes a new shaping force—a promise of closeness that turns into an anesthetizing filter, capable of isolating and distorting the perception of the self and of others. In every performative gesture, the body struggles to reclaim presence and contact, reaffirming itself as a living space of resistance and transformation.

Technological Hypnosis: A Kaleidoscope of Images

Here, the gaze becomes a tool of immersion and disorientation, as technology reshapes the perception of reality, creating new visual horizons. In Parallel Worlds, Claudio Napoli fragments the urban environment into impossible architectures; in THIS ORDINE, Enrico Gisana generates hypnotic cycles of overlapping words and forms; in Memory is a Strange Planet, Flavo Degen merges familiar and anonymous faces into grotesque, surreal hybrids; in Alteraciones: Modelos Mentales, Juan-Sí González empties media images of their original intent to create new visual syntaxes; in AI “Viaggio in Italia”, Roberto Beragnoli transforms the Italian peninsula into a surreal landscape where reality and imagination blur together.

Through visual overload, perceptual manipulation, and dreamlike escapes, these works show how technology not only represents reality but continuously rewrites it—drawing us into a dimension where recognizing what we see becomes, each time, a new act of interpretation.

Subtle Contemplations

Here, black and white becomes a tool for introspection, suspension, and silence—a space where life and its nuances slowly emerge. The videos invite the audience to linger on hidden traces, imperceptible gestures, and the subtle tensions that define existence.

In Se solo riuscissi a cantare (If Only I Could Sing) by Sofia Bersanelli, the domestic everyday transforms into a poetic landscape—through whispers, images, and words that reveal what lies beneath the surface. In EGOSISTEMI – Assurdo Razionale (EGOSYSTEMS – Rational Absurd), Marcello Vigoni reflects on life as a metaphor impossible to fully grasp, following the rhythm of water as it marks birth, maturity, and old age. In this meditative sequence, nature and symbolic elements lead to a confrontation with the absurd and with the human desire to decipher the incomprehensible.

Urban Resonances (sound)

The site-specific sound works, selected through an international open call organized in collaboration with ABA Rome, investigate the role of urban space in the era of smart cities and digital connections. The winning works—composed of pure sound—are installed in the entrance stairwell, transforming access to the 14th edition of The Others into an “immersive” threshold that establishes a hypothetical dialogue between the city and the exhibition spaces.

Risonanze Urbane (Sound) – Sound Artwork

Urban Resonances (Sound) is the international open call promoted by The Others Art Fair in collaboration with the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma and coordinated by Lorenzo Bruni and Cecilia Casorati (ABA Rome), for the creation of a site-specific sound artwork dedicated to the relationship between urban space, sound perception, and digital connections in the age of smart cities.

Given the large number and high quality of the proposals received — as well as the variety and conceptual depth of the works submitted by artists from different international contexts — four projects were selected, each offering a distinct perspective on the relationship between sound and urban space.

Karin Sander – Stone Splash

The artist introduces the natural sound of a river into the urban context, creating a perceptual and poetic shift. The work unsettles habitual listening, transforming the architectural environment into a mental landscape and refocusing attention on the fluid element as a principle of life and transformation.

Karin Sander (Bensberg, Germany, 1957) lives in Berlin and is a conceptual artist known for her minimal interventions that redefine the perception of space and objects, as seen in her work for Skulptur Projekte Münster. She represented Switzerland at the 2022 Venice Biennale and teaches at ETH Zurich.

Davide Bertocchi – Strato-dust (Once and For All)

A deconstructed electric guitar sound alternates with moments of silence, evoking the city’s vital rhythm and paying homage to artists who explored noise as language — from Metzger to Russolo. The piece functions as an exercise in critical listening: an invitation to recognize the hidden energy beneath the sonic saturation of the urban world.

Davide Bertocchi (Modena, 1969) lives and works in Paris. His practice combines sound, video, and installation, investigating the dynamics of image diffusion and musical culture. He has exhibited in venues such as Palais de Tokyo (Paris), MAMbo (Bologna), and Kunsthalle Bratislava.

Marco Bagnoli & Giuseppe Scali – Soglia Urbana. Risonanza delle Rane

A “sonic gate” where the gong and the croaking of frogs become symbolic instruments of orientation and transition. The work invites a rethinking of urban space as a sensitive organism, suggesting a reflection on the lost harmony between nature and the city in the hyperconnected age.

Marco Bagnoli (Empoli, 1949) is among the leading Italian conceptual artists. His research explores the relationships between space, light, and perception in symbolic and spiritual terms. He has exhibited in institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, the Venice Biennale, and Castello di Rivoli.

Giuseppe Scali (Empoli, 1958) is a composer, record producer, and founder of EMA Vinci, a production company active in classical, contemporary, and sound art music. Author of stage works, sound installations, and multimedia projects, he explores the relationship between sound, space, and perception, with particular attention to the spiritual and technological dimensions of sound.

Marcello Spada – Car Ghosting

Marcello Spada presents a composition based on experimental sounds developed to compensate for the absence of noise in electric vehicles (AVAS – Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System). The work reflects on new sound ecologies and the acoustic identity of contemporary cities, where the silent mobility of electric transport reshapes how human presence is perceived in public space.

Marcello Spada (Bologna, 1984) is an artist working site-specifically with new technologies. His works explore acoustic ecologies and the relationship between perception, environment, and contemporary mobility.

During the 14th edition of the fair (October 30 – November 2, 2025), each day will feature a different sound artwork, transforming the entrance stairwell of the International Training Centre of the ILO (Viale Maestri del Lavoro, Turin) into an acoustic threshold in constant metamorphosis. This daily rotation will allow the public to experience four original interpretations of the open call’s theme and to understand how sound research can manifest in multiple forms of listening, perception, and imagination of urban space.

SOUND CHRONICLES

Completing the initiatives dedicated to the theme of sound, the Accademia di Belle Arti di Roma will also host, on Saturday, November 1 at 3:31 PM, a round table on the topic of the archiving and enhancement of immaterial works:

Sound Art and Urban Resonances: The City as a Political Space.

Within the framework of The Others Art Fair, a tribute will be presented to MPDS (Mario Pieroni and Dora Stiefelmeier) Audio Archive, a continuously expanding sound archive comprising over 2,600 audio files by more than 200 artists from the 1960s to the present day.
In collaboration with Zerynthia Associazione per l’Arte Contemporanea OdV and the Academy of Fine Arts of Rome, a selection from the volume Sound Chronicles – MPDS Sound Archive, curated by Matteo Binci (published by Quodlibet), will be exhibited. The project is supported by PAC2024 – Piano per l’Arte Contemporanea of the Directorate-General for Contemporary Creativity of the Italian Ministry of Culture.

AWARDS

PREMIO BAM-SOLOCONTEMPORANEO

The BAM-Solocontemporaneo Award was created with the aim of promoting and supporting the work of young emerging artists, offering them an important opportunity for visibility within the contemporary art scene.

A jury composed of Riccardo Ghirardini (Artistic Director and Project Manager of BAM Piemonte), Arturo Mosquera (Collector, Miami – USA), and Massimo Ghirardini (Director of Spazi dell’Arte Contemporanea magazine) will select a winner from among the five artists under 35 identified for this edition.

The award is aimed at artists under 35 and consists of an invitation to exhibit a work in one of the upcoming editions of the Biennale di Arte Moderna e Contemporanea del Piemonte (BAM), scheduled for 2026 or 2027.

The distinction between the two dates is linked to the annual alternation between BAM Piemonte and BAM On Tour, as well as to the type of work selected, which may be pictorial or sculptural.

BAM Piedmont Project

BAM Piedmont is an event dedicated to artists from Piedmont, or who work or have worked in Piedmont, with the participation of authors from other regions and abroad.

After a preview in 2002, the first official edition took place at Villa Giulia, Pallanza (Lake Maggiore). Since its inception, the exhibition has been curated by Edoardo Di Mauro, professor of History and Methodology of Art Criticism at the Accademia Albertina in Turin, where he was also director.

In 2026, the event will continue with BAM On Tour, scheduled (to be confirmed) at the Castle of Novara, before returning in 2027 with a new edition of BAM Piemonte, planned at the Fonderie Limone in Moncalieri.

Additional opportunity

At the end of the award, Solocontemporaneo will offer the winner the opportunity to be included in the limited edition print catalog, a series of 30 copies in 33×45 cm format on 300-gram Fedrigoni paper, with 50% of the proceeds going to the artist.

PREMIO BEHNOODE FOUNDATION

Founded in 2016 by Behnood Javaherpour, the Behnoode Foundation is a Paris-based organization committed to supporting artists through various initiatives, such as publications, institution exhibitions, public programming, and art residency projects.

The foundation’s mission is to broaden the artistic experience and create a global community through educational platforms where young artists, who may face difficulties accessing international arts and cultural programs, can showcase their work and exchange ideas. In order to support this mission, the foundation offers scholarships for educational programs

The Behnoode Foundation invites artists and curators to participate in cultural and artistic events while also providing an educational platform for children in Nepal and Africa. In these underprivileged areas, the foundation builds schools to ensure that quality education is accessible for all.

The foundation believes that education is essential and makes it a priority to support and provide access to quality education for those who may not have the means to obtain it otherwise.

PREMIO COLLEZIONE MU.RO

The MU.RO Collection is a private collection of contemporary art, born from the meeting between Elisabetta Roncati and Andrea Musto, two creative souls united by their love of art, culture, design, and the fusion of languages. The name MU.RO, which plays on the idea of the domestic wall as the guardian of the works and the initials of the founders’ surnames, sums up the nature of the project: a collection that thrives on relationships, elective affinities, research, and preservation.

The beating heart of this journey is Spazio MU.RO, a cultural laboratory of over 200 square meters in the heart of Milan. More than a classic exhibition venue, Spazio MU.RO is a fluid ecosystem where the public becomes an active part of exhibitions, talks, performances, and events that intertwine historical memory and contemporary experimentation, with a particular focus on young artists, hybrid languages, and global creative visions.

For the 2025 edition of The Others, MU.RO presents the first edition of the MU.RO Collection Award, intended for the acquisition of a work exhibited at the fair that will become part of the collection.

The central theme of the award is the human body understood as an archive of memories and identity, as a political and poetic space, as a map of fragility and metamorphosis. The figure becomes a lens through which to read the present: a universal but ever-changing symbol that unites individual and collective experiences, dialogues with inclusivity and queer voices, and bridges artistic tradition and technological innovation.

The award will therefore invite candidates to reflect on the body not only as a subject, but as a living presence that challenges the boundaries of medium and representation. Painting, sculpture, photography, installations, digital works, and hybrid languages: all techniques are welcome, because the essence of MU.RO Collection is plurality. Similarly, there are no age limits for artists: from emerging voices of Generation Z to established artists, any work that depicts the body with authenticity and narrative power can be proposed by the galleries present at the fair.

With this award, MU.RO Collection once again confirms its vocation: collecting not as an act of possession, but as an act of listening and responsibility. Each acquisition is a thoughtful choice, a narrative that becomes part of a constantly changing mosaic, where art becomes a mirror of our time and a heritage for the future.

The selection of the winning work will be entrusted to a scientific committee composed of:

  • Mattia Starace, collector, M.A.A.T Project Brussels
  • Betina Kashiama, collector, M.A.A.T Project Brussels
  • Francesca Ciampa, Architect, freelance journalist, and university professor of Technological Design for Architecture at the Department of Architecture of the University of Naples Federico II.

PREMIO OPERAE – BORDOLI COLLECTION

The goal of the prize is the acquisition of an artwork, selected from those displayed at the fair’s stands, to be included in the Bordoli Collection.

The chosen piece will be determined by a jury composed of collector and founder of Operæ Award – Bordoli Collection, Emilio Bordoli, Operæ Award – Bordoli Collection CEO and art consultant Gloria Amorena, curator Lorenzo Bruni, and collector Chiara Casolo Ginelli.

The prize does not impose any age or technique restrictions, but its aim is to identify and acquire a work that reflects the core values of the Operæ Award – Bordoli Collection initiative, which was created by collectors for collectors. Specifically, the values sought are communicative creativity, empathy towards the viewer, and the strength of the message conveyed.

A central value of Operæ – the most widespread system for collection archiving and management on smartphones and tablets – is the desire to share and communicate the value of one’s collection. Above all, the jury will look for an optimistic and positive attitude, which, particularly in these challenging times – socially, historically, and geopolitically – should permeate the world of art and creative production.

PREMIO SPAZIOTTANTOTTO

Trust is the root of hope, the attitude that allows us to look to the future with optimism, to believe in our abilities and the potential of others.

The prize aims not only to celebrate visual beauty and creativity but also to recognize the power of a work of art to inspire trust in human potential, in peaceful coexistence in harmony with creation, and in the conscious and ethical use of technology; and to promote a positive sense of security, serenity and calm. These are the elements that help overcome challenges, build stronger relationships, and look ahead the future and live the present with hope.
