The Others: new DPCM bans fairs in presence

The organisers: “We will maintain our commitment to the City and will open Pavilion 3 of Torino Esposizioni on 6, 7, 8 November from 11 am to 6 pm. Free entrance in absolute safety to admire the wonderful architecture of Ettore Sottsass senior and Pier Luigi Nervi”.

The new dispositions imposed by Prime Ministerial Decree no. 265 Art.1.9.n) of 24 October 2020, which states that “Festivals, fairs of any kind and other similar events are forbidden“, prevent the tenth edition of The Others taking place in presence.

We have committed with the City to making available and accessible Pavilion 3 of Torino Esposizioni to the public once again and so we will do – say the creators of The Others, Roberto Casiraghi and Paola Rampini – On 6, 7, 8 November, from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., subject to online booking on The Others’ website, the wonderful structure, that is part of the former exhibition centre designed by Ettore Sottsass senior in 1938 with the collaboration of Pier Luigi Nervi, can be visited for free and in absolute safety” (entrance via Francesco Petrarca 39/B). Included by the Getty Foundation among the masterpieces of 20th century world architecture, the building has been unused for many years. Designed by Pier Luigi Nervi in 1950, it develops along Via Petrarca and is characterised by a ribbed vault, resting on four skew arcades; it is a large, unitary space with a rectangular plan of 3,880 square metres.

From 6 to 8 November, at the centre of the Pavilion, The Others Association will be setting up a large cube with the history of Torino Esposizioni and the many events it has hosted over the years, with an invitation to visitors to express, by writing or drawing on the walls of the cube, their preference for the future destination of Pavilion 3.

“A look at tomorrow, which in these days can only represent an attempt to psychologically overcome the climate we are living in,” concluded Roberto Casiraghi and Paola Rampini. “A great effort for our Association which, after giving up The Phair, because of the pandemic, is forced to cancel The Others 2020. The sense of belonging to an art system obliges us to work in conditions of obvious discomfort so that the light that has always animated our projects is not extinguished“.

The space in Pavilion 3 is also accessible to accompanied disabled people.
